What are cookies
Cookies are small text fragments that visited websites send to the user's browser, where they are stored to be retransmitted to the server upon the next visit. They are entirely common tools indispensable for the correct functioning of most websites: they allow the server to "remember" useful information between one page and another (e.g. that the user is logged in) and between one visit and another (e.g. the chosen language).
There are session cookies, lasting only while the browser is open, and persistent cookies, which have an explicit expiration and remain stored even after the browser is closed. Similar technologies also exist (browser local storage, sessionStorage, indexedDB, etc.) that serve an analogous purpose and that — when used for technical purposes — follow the same legal regime as technical cookies.
Cookie types and legal regime
Pursuant to art. 122 of Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 (Privacy Code, implementing the ePrivacy directive) and to the guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (decision of 10 June 2021), the following are distinguished:
- Strictly necessary technical cookies: essential for the site to work (authentication, session, CSRF protection). No prior consent required.
- Preference/functionality cookies: store user choices (language, theme). Treated as technical cookies if limited to improving the experience. No prior consent required if they do not profile.
- First-party analytics cookies: used for aggregated statistics on site usage. Equivalent to technical cookies if the IP is anonymized and data is not cross-referenced with other sources.
- Profiling and third-party cookies: track the user for behavioural marketing or targeted advertising purposes. Explicit consent (opt-in) is required under GDPR.

Additionally, during the slot pack checkout process, the user is redirected to the checkout.stripe.com domain to enter payment data. Stripe may set its own cookies on that domain for security and fraud prevention purposes; those cookies are subject to the Stripe cookie policy. LOCUS does not receive or store those cookies.
Third-party cookies
This site does not embed third-party content that may set cookies (YouTube videos, Google Maps, social pixels, external fonts that save cookies, chat widgets, etc.). The web fonts used are hosted directly on LOCUS servers, not by external providers.
How to manage cookies
The user can always review, accept, block or delete cookies through their browser settings. Disabling the technical cookies listed above will make login and language persistence impossible. Useful links:
